MAKE Time For A Friend A Day In May
May Day, May Day! It's that time again to reach out to a Friend-A-Day-In-May! If you've been a regular reader of Here We Are, you know that I've asked you to join me in this exercise in 2012, 2014, and 2015. All three times have been very rewarding both personally and professionally. I hope that you will MAKE the time to write, text, call, and visit with someone every day this month. Check out the simple steps to getting started today on your friend a day in May journey.
Yes, it is an exercise in prioritizing your time, managing your energy, and actively engaging with others. I can assure you, the benefits outweigh the effort in numerous, unexpected ways... These are a few lessons learned after my first Friend-A-Day experience.
Friendships are important to each of us as human beings, they come in all shapes and sizes, and levels of connections that enhance our lives. Like all good things, quality friendships require care and maintenance to grow and remain strong. Let the month of May be an opportunity to pour a little love and sunshine onto those special people. As I mentioned in the second friend a day campaign, simply "Be the friend you want to have!"
Remember, friends can evolve out of acquaintances, neighbors, coworkers, in-laws, classmates, etc., so think about who you might want to cultivate a new friendship with, then reach out. Also, look back on your life, is there someone you've been thinking of with whom you would like to reconnect? Most importantly, focus on the people in your life now. Choose carefully what keeps you busy AND don't assume they will always be there, take the time out of your hectic schedule to share a special chat or visit; one day you will be glad you did.
If you keep a gratitude journal, include your friend of the day. At the end of the month you will feel especially grateful and lucky to have so many people in your life. Please consider joining me throughout this month on making time for a friend a day, let me know how applying yourself in this relationship building activity enhanced your life... I always love to hear from you. ~ Luci
